Director Edwin Wins Golden Leopard At The 2021 Locarno International Festival

JAKARTA - Indonesia received good news from the world of cinema. The film directed by Edwin, "Like Dendam, Rindu Must be Paid Completely" won the Golden Leopard from the international competition session (Concorso Internazionale) at the 2021 Locarno International Film Festival.

This award is an honor because Edwin the director is the first Indonesian to win the Golden Leopard, the highest award that has been achieved by directors of world caliber such as Stanley Kubrick, Mike Leigh, Jafar Panahi, Jim Jarmusch.

"This Golden Leopard award is a kind of vaccine, booster, or vitamin which is expected to be able to strengthen Indonesian films and all Indonesian film lovers, wherever they are." said Edwin in a statement received by VOI, Sunday 15 August.

The film, which was adapted from Eka Kurniawan's novel, stars Marthino Lio (as Ajo Kawir), Ladya Cheryl (Iteung), Reza Rahadian (Budi Baik), Ratu Felisha (Jelita) and Sal Priadi (Gecko).

Tells the story of Ajo Kawir, a hero who is not afraid to die. His great desire to fight is driven by a secret, he is impotent. When faced with a formidable female fighter named Iteung, Ajo was battered and turned upside down, he also fell in love.

It is known, the Locarno Film Festival is an annual film event that is held every August in Locarno, Switzerland. This year is the 74th edition since its inception in 1946, making it one of the oldest film festivals in the world.

The film “Like Dendam, Rindu Must be Paid Completely” will also participate in the Contemporary World Cinema program, Toronto International Film Festival 2021. In the American film industry, this festival is considered as one of the benchmarks for a film to get an Oscar.

This year the prestigious film festival will take place from September 9 to 18, 2021.
