JAKARTA - Actor Aming acted in the film "I Before I" from director Gina S. Noer. This film is his first Indonesian Netflix project where he plays two characters, Pak Zai and Pak Juned.

"In this film I play two characters at once, namely Mr. Zai, the religious teacher, and Mr. Juned, who is a sports teacher. This is one of the most challenging roles I've ever had. They are identical twins but still have different characters. Different but still feel the same," said Aming.

"Mr. Zai is a more introverted and soft-spoken figure. His gestures tend to be more downcast. While Mr. Juned is the opposite. As a sports teacher, he is more extroverted, outspoken, and expressive. But the two have one thing in common: they are calm teachers and have finished with themselves," he continued.

Aming explained that Gina S. Noer helped him develop the characters of Pak Zai and Pak Juned to look contrasting. He also reflected on his experiences when he was in school to become a religious teacher.

"If it's about real teachers, I used to be a naughty but polite child in elementary and junior high school. I remember there was a BP teacher who said to me: "Ming, being angry is tiring. You better accept all the inconveniences in your life, don't rush to forgive, it's a process." That sentence is very sticky and helps me regulate my emotions until now," he said.

Through this film, Aming agreed that what happened in the past affects a person's attitude. He considers this film to be a portrait of the variety of ideal education and to grow students who are more sensitive to the environment and new information.

"Without intending to judge anyone, I feel this film offers an insight into what an ideal education looks like. Many of us grew up in a system that focused more on lectures and memorization. Students receive information, but are not always given the space to ask questions or think critically," said Aming.

The film "Aku Sebelum Aku" tells the story of a high-achieving teenager named Jati (Bimasena) who won a prestigious school competition but suffered a panic attack. In the midst of increasingly suffocating pressure, he must fight to find himself before his father's ambition (Ringgo Agus Rahman) decides to sever their family ties.

Meanwhile, the film "I Before I" will be released on Netflix starting July 16, 2026.
