JAKARTA - In the era of fast-paced social media, the definition of beauty continues to change. Trends come and go in a matter of weeks, from the latest makeup techniques to skincare ingredients that suddenly go viral.
But in the midst of the torrent of information, more and more Indonesian women are choosing one thing that is more important, namely recognizing their own needs.
This phenomenon is seen from the growing conversation about beauty that is no longer focused on certain standards, but on personal experiences.
Beauty is now understood as a different journey for each individual, namely about how a person feels comfortable, confident, and able to express themselves authentically.
The continued growth of beauty and self-care content on TikTok shows that people are increasingly actively seeking inspiration, education, and experiences that are relevant to their needs.
But interestingly, the current beauty trend is no longer just about following what is viral, but rather about the ability to sort out what really suits you.
Doctor and beauty creator, Naila Dinillah, saw this change in mindset directly through interaction with her community. This was revealed in the TikTok ForYouBeauty 2026 press conference.
"From interacting with the community on TikTok, I learned that many people are on a journey to be more accepting and trusting of themselves," said Naila Dinillah, when met at the Senayan City Mall, Central Jakarta on Friday, June 12, 2021.
"That is what inspired me to continue sharing honest content, close to everyday life, and can provide benefits for the audience. I am very happy because my content on TikTok can accompany people's journey in finding their own beautiful version," he continued.
A similar view also emerged when discussing the changing skincare trends. According to Naila, people today are increasingly understanding that everyone's skin needs are different.
"In the past, people tended to follow all trends, now women are much smarter. Some are suitable for long skincare routines, some are more suitable for simple treatments. The important thing is not to follow trends, but to understand the needs of each skin," he explained.
The awareness to be more personal in taking care of yourself is also one of the biggest changes in the beauty industry today. Consumers are no longer just buying products because they are viral, but are starting to consider effectiveness, safety, and suitability for their skin condition.
In the midst of this behavioral change, various local brands are also trying to present an approach that is closer to consumer needs. One of them is NPURE which uses a digital platform to build a more interactive communication with its community.
"The integrated TikTok ecosystem is the main bridge for NPURE in selling our products. The integrated TikTok system makes it easier for us to meet the NPURE community on TikTok to help them find their beautiful version," said Stella Ryani Gunawan, Chief Marketing Officer, NPURE.
Even though the beauty trend continues to change, Stella believes that consumers are now more critical in making choices.
"Consumers are getting smarter. They not only join FOMO to the current trend, but also find out the benefits, safety, and effectiveness of a product. Everyone's needs are different, so the most important thing is to find a solution that really suits each person's condition," he said.
Meanwhile, for singer and songwriter Ghea Indrawari, beauty has a broader meaning than just appearance. For him, beauty is the courage to show yourself without always having to follow other people's expectations.
"As a musician, I see TikTok not only as a place to share my work, but also a space to show my true self. TikTok also gives me the freedom to experiment with various forms of content to show my 'beauty'. From there, I found that the most authentic things are often the closest to the community," said Ghea Indrawari.
Interestingly, Ghea admitted that some beauty trends that were initially foreign actually became part of her personal style after being tried. This experience shows that exploration in the world of beauty is not always about following trends, but rather finding elements that really suit your character.
In the midst of increasingly hot tropical weather and busy activities, conversations about beauty are also becoming more realistic. Naila reminds that makeup that is not always perfect is not something to be feared.
"First of all we have to change the mindset. This is makeup, not a wall. Makeup is applied on moving skin that has its own texture. If it cracks a little or shifts, it's normal. What is more important is skin health and how we take care of it," he said.
He also emphasized the importance of the facial cleansing process after using makeup and giving the skin time to rest when needed.
Beauty trends will always change. The popular makeup technique today could be replaced a few months later. The skincare content that is currently being widely discussed may be replaced with the next innovation. However, one thing that seems to remain relevant is the awareness that beauty is no longer determined by a single standard.
Indonesian women are increasingly brave in determining their own definition of beauty. Not just following what is popular, but understanding what makes them feel comfortable, confident, and be the best version of themselves.
The journey of finding beauty is not about being like someone else, but about finding yourself.
