JAKARTA - Director Awi Suryadi together with MD Pictures announced the latest film "Laddaland Housing". This film is an adaptation of a popular horror film in Thailand in 2011.
The director admitted that he had actually 'looked for' to adapt this film for a long time. When the opportunity came after a long time, he agreed without thinking twice.
"Before my first horror film, Danur, this is one of the films because I just made my first horror film. As many films as I watch and one of my favorites, Laddaland. During the pandemic, the co-producer asked "(MD) to buy the Laddaland IP" and continued to be serious with the crush with this film," said director Manoj Punjabi in South Jakarta on Thursday, June 11.
"Who would have thought Mr. Manoj (Punjabi) would also want it, especially Laddaland is a psycho-horror that is different from most Indonesian horror," he said again.
Manoj Punjabi as a producer explained, "We took Laddaland because the hype was big and the fans were there. After we surveyed, we were excited that we took this IP and Awi had a mission to hold this, why do you believe in this concept."
Ladda Land tells the story of a family who moves into a new house where they experience paranormal events and various terrors. In the Indonesian version, the film "Laddaland Housing" is played by Titi Kamal, Andri Mashadi, Anantya Kirana and Shakeel Fauzi.
The director said that there were changes in the background of the characters and the story that were adjusted considering that the original film was set in 2011. The film "Laddaland Housing" tells the story of Tomi (Andri Mashadi) who struggles for a mortgage to get his dream house for his family, but the death of their housekeeper is the beginning of a terrifying terror.
"Because the original film was in 2011, of course there is technological progress. Some scenes that move the plot in the Thai film cannot be used because the technology is outdated. For example, in the original film the main character works at a minimarket," said Awi Suryadi.
"If now in Indonesia, the easiest emergency choice for people who are waiting for permanent jobs is to become an online driver. It is very related to the current economic situation. I also bring my own trademark into this film so that the audience knows this is 'Awi's film'." he explained again.
The film "Laddaland Housing" will be shown in Indonesian cinemas starting August 13, 2026.
