JAKARTA - Changes in the lifestyle of urban people make the need for housing and workspaces increasingly developed. If in the past interior design only focused on visual appearance, now people also consider the aspects of functionality, material durability, and ease of maintenance in the long term.
The trend of open spaces, large-sized kitchen islands, communal areas in homes, to representative meeting rooms in offices encourages the need for materials that are not only beautiful, but also able to meet the demands of modern lifestyles. In the midst of this development, the Indonesian building materials industry has shown significant progress through various innovations that are able to compete globally.
According to the Chairman of the Indonesian Ceramic Industry Association (ASAKI), Edy Suyanto, the transformation of the ceramic industry in the last few decades has changed the way people view ceramic products and interior materials.
"Previously, the ceramic industry was synonymous with conventional material stores. Now it has changed into a part of lifestyle," said Edy, when met at the Nusantara International Convention Exhibition (NICE) PIK 2 on Friday, June 5, 2026.
"Ceramic products and interior materials are presented in a more inspiring showroom concept, supported by digital and social media developments that make people more aware of design, aesthetics, and space quality," he added.
This change encourages industry players to continue to present innovations that are relevant to the needs of the modern market.
In the midst of this development, QUADRA again recorded a proud achievement by achieving the Indonesian World Record Museum (MURI) record for the Longest Seamless Sintered Stone Table category of 5 meters at the Keramika 2026 event which took place at NICE PIK 2.
This achievement is proof of the ability of the national manufacturing industry in producing high-tech products with international standards.
QUADRA & ROMAN's head, Willie Low, explained that the 5-meter-long table was produced using Sacmi Continua+ technology from Italy which allows the creation of very large slabs with consistent quality.
"The biggest challenge is not in the material, but how to control the slab of five meters during the production process. With the manufacturing innovation we have, the natural material is optimally compacted to produce large-sized sintered stone with consistent structure and almost zero water absorption. The result is a seamless table of five meters without joints," said Willie.
This innovation not only presents aesthetic value, but also offers various functional advantages. The non-porous surface makes the material more hygienic, easy to clean, stain resistant, heat resistant, and scratch resistant, making it suitable for application in various modern spaces, ranging from premium kitchen islands to executive meeting tables.
As the popularity of this material increases, many people still don't understand what sintered stone is.
Head of Marketing QUADRA & ROMAN, Pelly Sianova explained that sintered stone is a material formed through the sintering process, namely the compaction of natural materials which are then heated at high temperatures without reaching the melting point.
"Sintered stone does not mean it is made of whole stone, but a material that goes through the sintering process. The material is compacted first, then heated at high temperatures to produce a product that is very strong, stable, and has superior performance for various architectural and interior needs," explained Pelly.
According to him, these characteristics make sintered stone able to be applied in various areas, ranging from floors, walls, building facades, tables, cabinets, to public spaces with high usage intensity.
"The strength of this material is the reason why sintered stone can be used in many applications. In addition to being scratch-resistant and heat-resistant, it is also very easy to maintain because it is enough to be cleaned with water and a regular cloth without requiring special chemicals," he added.
The success of QUADRA in breaking the MURI record is not only a company achievement, but also reflects the progress of the national manufacturing industry.
MURI Deputy President Director Osmar Semesta Susilo assessed that this achievement is proof that domestic industrial works are able to present innovations that have high added value.
"This record is a form of appreciation for the work and innovation of the nation's children in the fields of economy and industry. Proudly, all the manufacturing processes are carried out in Indonesia. We hope that this achievement can spur the spirit of creativity and innovation of the national industry so that it can grow and be more competitive," said Osmar.
Edy Suyanto conveyed the same thing, who assessed that the achievement showed the ability of the local industry to compete with world-class premium products.
"This achievement shows that the Indonesian ceramic and building materials industry has the technological ability, product quality, and innovation that are equivalent to premium products from Europe and the United States. This is a source of pride for the national industry and proves that we are capable of becoming a major player in the global market," he said.
Not stopping at the MURI record, QUADRA also introduced a number of the latest innovations at the Keramika 2026 event. One of them is through QUADRA eXential which comes in various sizes, namely 100x100 cm, 120x60 cm, and 80x80 cm to provide design flexibility in spaces with more compact dimensions.
In addition, QUADRA presents a sintered stone slab with a thickness of 6 mm which is designed to answer the needs of modern architecture for materials that are light, strong, and flexible. This product can be applied using the tile on tile method so it is ideal for wall coverings, pivot doors, cabinets, to lift areas without burdening the building structure.
Meanwhile, ROMAN also introduced moZaik, a product line that combines modern manufacturing technology with the richness of Indonesian natural materials and detailed artistic touches.
According to Willie, all these innovations are born from the company's commitment to continue to encourage the development of national design and architecture.
"Starting from a five-meter seamless table, 6 mm sintered stone, to the moZaik collection, all of which are part of our commitment to proving that the local industry is capable of producing products with global quality standards. We want to continue to present new explorations that can support the development of Indonesian interior and architectural design," concluded Willie.
In the midst of the increasing need for people for comfortable, healthy, and aesthetic spaces, material innovations such as sintered stone show the future of design is not only about visual beauty, but also about how technology is able to present more functional and sustainable solutions for daily life.
