Inspired By SE7EN And The Zodiac, Loki Series Is Coming Full Of Surprises

JAKARTA - The creators and cast of the latest Marvel series Loki, which will be airing on Disney+, said that the event will be full of surprises and a new line of players and plays to tell the story of the younger brother of Thor.

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige said, just like previous Disney+ series such as WandaVision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki also takes place during or after Avengers: Endgame (2019).

Loki's story itself will take place at the same time as Avengers: Endgame, so Loki will be shown as in 2012 escaping through time using a tesseract.

"We didn't seem to know we were going to make this series when we were working on Avengers: Infinity War. However, I think we knew we had to make (Loki) while we were working on Endgame," Feige said at Loki's virtual global press conference on Tuesday.

"And what I mean by that, is we still didn't know how (Loki) would be told, in which direction. But what was interesting was how the audience then said we forgot to tell what happened to Loki (after Endgame) And looking at Disney+, we felt this fit and we couldn't wait to share it with the world."

It's not the first time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to dwell on the story of time travel. However, director Kate Herron and writer Michael Waldron say there are other elements that are different and refreshing from this series, one of which is crime.

"We are inspired a lot from SE7EN (1995). There will be many references to the film in episode two," said Herron.

In addition, the Waldorn team was also inspired by filmmaker David Fincher who worked on crime/thriller genre films such as SE7EN and Zodiac (2007). He said he was also heavily influenced by The Silence of the Lambs (1991) by director Jonathan Demme.

Meanwhile, Loki will return to feature Tom Hiddleston as Loki. The series also features Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku, and Richard E. Grant.

Loki premieres June 9, 2021 on Disney+ Hotstar.
