Legendary director and initiator of LA Indie Movie, Garin Nugroho, emphasized the importance of this platform as a space for the birth of authentic ideas from young filmmakers.
"Containers such as LA Indie Movie are very important for the regeneration of Indonesian films. Through a series of workshops and competitions, we provide skills and open direct opportunities to enter the industry," said Garin Nugroho as quoted by VOI from a media release, Monday, May 4.
LA Indie Movie 2026 does not take lightly, bringing a number of top film practitioners as mentors and speakers. Starting from hit director Joko Anwar, Wregas Bhanuteja, Fajar Nugros, to talented actors Asmara Abigail and Claresta Taufan.
In addition, participants will also gain knowledge from behind-the-scenes experts such as cinematographers Batara Goempar and Ical Tanjung, to professional art directors and editors. The presence of Odair Faleco, a director who is an expert in AI-based films, is also guaranteed to give a new color to participants.
For the selected finalists, LA Indie Movie not only provides knowledge, but also significant financial support. A total of Rp400 million in production funds is available to realize their dream short films.
