JAKARTA - Behind the success of the Id Salat in the field, Hanung Bramantyo has a deeper mission of preaching about Islam in Indonesia. Hanung emphasized that the mosque and all its attributes must be a blessing for everyone without exception.
Regarding his decision to move or arrange the mosque's speakers that went viral, Hanung has a fundamental reason.
"That is part of our ijtihad when we make a mosque. The mosque must honor anyone, not only Muslims, but also anyone," said Hanung in South Jakarta, Saturday, March 21.
He argued that humanity is the main bridge when there are differences of belief in the community.
"If I consider non-Muslims, I think I have a barrier. But the mosque is a place where we can help in terms of humanity. If we can't be together in worship, then we have to be together in humanity," he continued.
Hanung also highlighted the sensitivity of the use of loudspeakers which he said should be placed according to its portion.
"The mosque speaker is indeed the most sensitive thing right now, not only for those who are not Muslims, but for Muslims who sometimes also feel sensitive because the speaker is not used in its place and time," criticized Hanung.
According to him, outdoor loudspeakers should only be focused on prayer calls or azan.
"For example, the speaker is only for the azan. And the azan stops at 7 (at night), there is no azan at 12 midnight. So if someone is disturbed at 7, it means that person is the problem," he added.
He also questioned the urgency of using outdoor loudspeakers for long-term tadarus or study activities.
"Suddenly, tadarus, studies, then use speakers, what is the purpose? Is it that with the use of speakers, people will flock to Islam? There is no history," said Hanung bluntly.
For Hanung, the appeal of Islam should be reflected in the behavior of its adherents, not from the volume of the mosque's loudspeakers.
"There is no such thing as people who migrate to Islam because of speakers. But because of our politeness, because of our attention to humanity," said the husband of Zaskia Adya Mecca.
He did not mind if there were parties who felt disturbed by his opinion, because for him this was a form of education.
"Please make those who are disturbed by my post, because I actually return the dignity of the mosque, namely for humanity, to show that Islam is Rahmatan lil 'Alamin," he said.
Apart from the technical aspects of the mosque, Hanung also slipped a global geopolitical message into the Salat Id lecture he held.
"I want the pilgrims to understand the geopolitical context in the international world. So it's not just talking about verses that are templates when it's Eid," explained Hanung.
He wants pilgrims to open their eyes to what is happening in Palestine to the potential for division of the community due to regional conflicts.
"How are our brothers there, how is this war between Iran and Israel almost splitting the Muslims. We want to show that Islam is compact, polite, intellectual, and inclusive," he concluded.
