JAKARTA - Actor Ben Kasyafani shared his experience while participating in the latest film project which took place in 1983, "Setannya Cuan", a work from the Radepa Black production house.
The 42-year-old actor said that the main challenge for the players was the language problem. Given the background of the film in a mountainous area with a setting in the 1980s, the use of the Sundanese language became an important element to bring the atmosphere to life.
"The most challenging thing is the language. We are not all native Sundanese. Yes, we are trying," said Ben Kasyafani in Kuningan, South Jakarta, Saturday, February 28.
Even though he realized that the audience who spoke fluent Sundanese might feel the difference, Ben and his team still tried to provide the right verbalization so that the rural atmosphere of the past would be maintained.
"We also have to bring the message, that these people are from the mountain area, and it has been a long time. So the adjustment is there," he added.
Apart from the language problem, Ben also told the most memorable moments during the filming process. This happened when he had to play a role with the director, Anggi Umbara, who in this film also acted as a ustadz.
Ben told how Anggi Umbara finally wanted to "go down the mountain" to act in front of the camera. However, the scene was actually not easy to do because of technical and natural factors.
"That's a scene from top to bottom. We repeated it a lot, quite a lot of repetitions, long, technical, rain, and others. It's slippery, there are still all kinds of things," said Ben.
Because of the difficulty of the terrain and the complexity of the image requirements, Ben admitted that he had to repeat the scene many times under the rain and slippery road conditions.
"So for me it's probably more than ten times, if I'm not mistaken, it's quite a lot with scenes like that," he concluded.
As for Sahrul Gibran, the director of "Setannya Cuan" said, the film which was delayed for seven years is not just a mere entertainment, but also a satire against people who want to get everything instantly.
"This film is a comedy horror, but its deepest layer is a satire about people who want everything to be instant. We want the audience to laugh, be surprised, but also go home with contemplation," said Sahrul. "Especially released in the fasting month, the moment is very relevant to the theme of self-control."
In addition to Ben Kasyafani, this film is also starring Fico Fachriza, Joe P-Project, Anyun Cadel, Nadine Alexandra, Dimas Andrean, Aming, Candil, Mega Carefansa, Gabriella Desta, Mongol Stres, Aming, Budi Dalton, to Haji Malih Tong Tong.
