Holiday During Rainy Season? These Are the Most Searched Cities

JAKARTA - The rainy season often changes the travel plans of many people. The unpredictable weather makes some tourists choose destinations with a cool atmosphere, scenery that is even more beautiful when it rains, or indoor activity options that are still comfortable to enjoy.

Digital travel platform Agoda has noted a shift in Indonesian people's travel preferences during the rainy season.

"The rainy season also affects travel trends, with more and more tourists looking for destinations that still offer an interesting experience regardless of weather conditions," said Agoda's Senior Country Director for Indonesia Gede Gunawan in an official statement received in Jakarta, Friday.

According to Gede, the richness of Indonesia's natural and cultural landscapes is a unique attraction, especially when the rain brings a different atmosphere in various regions.

Based on accommodation search data from January 1-25, 2026 for the check-in period from February to March 2026, a number of cities have recorded an increase in interest from domestic tourists.

Bali

Bali occupies the top position with a 27 percent increase in accommodation searches compared to the previous year. The Ubud area is one of the most sought after because the expanse of rice fields and tropical forests looks greener when it rains. In addition to enjoying the natural atmosphere, tourists can also visit art galleries or watch traditional dance performances in closed spaces.

Bandung

Bandung is in second place with a search increase of 27 percent. The cool air that is increasingly felt during the rainy season is a unique attraction. In addition to culinary tourism, highland areas such as Lembang and Dago Pakar are still crowded because they offer views of foggy valleys from restaurants or roofed cafes.

Yogyakarta

Yogyakarta recorded the highest search spike, namely 40 percent compared to last year. The calmer atmosphere of the city during the rain is considered to present a different feel. Destinations such as the Yogyakarta Palace and a number of museums are the choice because they are still comfortable to visit when the weather is less friendly.

Malang and Batu

Malang is in the next position with a search increase of up to 47 percent. The cold air that is characteristic of this city feels fresher during the rainy season. Meanwhile, the Batu area offers various indoor museums such as the Angkut Museum, the Brawijaya Museum, and the Mpu Purwa Museum which can be an alternative for tourists during the rainy season.

Bogor

Known as the "Rain City", Bogor occupies fifth position with a search increase of 15 percent. The Bogor Botanical Garden area looks more beautiful after being showered with rain. In addition, warm culinary tourism is a special attraction for visitors who come during cold weather.

The data shows that the rainy season does not completely reduce the interest in traveling. Instead, many tourists are looking for a different experience, with a quieter atmosphere and a landscape that feels fresher.
