JAKARTA - Ochi Rosdiana's name has always been closely associated with various iconic characters on the screen. However, this time Ochi stepped onto the big screen through his latest horror film, Kuyang.

In an exclusive interview with VOI, Ochi dissected the character of Fauziah that he played, a role that demanded emotional depth and a shift in image from what the public was familiar with.

For Ochi, the figure of Fauziah is not just a complementary character. He describes Fauziah as a woman who has strength in acceptance.

"In my opinion, Fauziah is a woman who can give up something she can't have. But she is also a gentle, loving, and principled woman," said Ochi Rosdiana at VOI's office, Monday, January 19.

Even though he looks calm, Fauziah has a uniqueness in communicating. Ochi said that there were challenges when he had to play a character who spoke implicitly.

"Fauziah is typical of those who talk a little bit, but it doesn't look like it. People who understand what it means will only understand. That's a challenge for me because I've never had a character like this before," he added.

Switching from the rhythm of a soap opera to a big screen film certainly gives this former JKT48 member a different experience. Ochi tells how he has to maintain emotional consistency in long scenes that drain energy.

"Playing in this film is very emotional. There are several scenes that escalate the emotions that get it right. From being happy, suddenly sad, then have to cry. I have to hold back tears so that they don't come out in the middle, it has to be in certain parts of the dialogue," he explained.

Fortunately, the supportive work environment made it easier for him to get into character. The support from his co-stars, such as Aryo, as well as the intensive workshop and reading process were recognized by Ochi as very helpful in exploring the Fauziah character to the end.

Through the character of Fauziah, Ochi wants to convey a moral message that is relevant to many people, especially heart affairs. For him, regret always comes later for those who choose to be silent.

"What can be taken from Fauziah is never keep something too long. If you have a feeling of anger, joy, admiration, or love, it's better to express it first. Talk about it than regret it later," said Ochi emphatically.

Often getting the role of a fierce and judes antagonist in soap operas, many think Ochi's involvement as a protagonist in the film Kuyang is an effort to rebrand or remove the old image. However, Ochi dismissed this.

"Not really. My soap operas lately are also average protagonists. So the goal is not to let go of the image. It depends on the audience's glasses, which role is most attached to their hearts," he said casually.

He also did not mind if there were still many fans who called him by the old character name like Pitaloka.

"People want to think I like to get angry, yes, that's the role that I remember when I was acting angry. For me, the important thing is how to give the best seasoning in every role, like in this Kuyang film. Not pure antagonists, but there is the seasoning that you have to watch yourself," concluded Ochi with a secret smile.

Between Singing and Acting

For the public, Ochi Rosdiana's figure may be associated with the image of an idol when she started her career at JKT48. However, if you look deeper, the blood of acting has been flowing long before she held a microphone on stage.

Ochi straightened out public views on the starting point of his career and how he finally settled down in the acting world.

Many think that JKT48 is Ochi's main gateway into the entertainment industry. In fact, the world of acting is his first love. Ochi revealed that he has been actively decorating the screen since he was still in elementary school.

"Actually, if you say I started singing, no. I actually played a soap opera first from grade 4 SD. I started playing FTV, then stripping too. Until finally I joined JKT48 for one year, came out, and came back to filming until today," recalled Ochi.

Ochi's return to acting after having tasted the world of singing proves that his main passion is indeed in front of the camera as an actor.

Although he has been in stripping soap operas for years, Ochi's involvement on the big screen through the film Kuyang feels quite late for some people.

Ochi admitted that film offers had actually been coming in since previous years. However, his loyalty to the busy soap opera schedule was the main obstacle.

"The film offer actually has been there for years. It's just that I'm still comfortable in the soap opera. The problem is, the soap opera is on every day, chasing the broadcast. So the time is never right," he explained.

Interestingly, the film Kuyank which will be his latest film project comes at a very personal time for Ochi.

"The schedule is perfect when I'm preparing for marriage. At that time I decided not to take a soap opera for a year so that I could focus on preparations. Suddenly I got a film offer, because the duration of the film shooting was already determined, so I could finally take it," he added.

When asked about the choice between being a singer or an actor, Ochi firmly chose the role world. His consistency over the years in this industry is a real proof of his comfort.

Even though he has been in the business for a long time, Ochi joked about his age which is now 27 years old. He feels that time passes so quickly that he sometimes feels "old" when dealing with interlocutors who are still in school.

"Age can be old, but the soul must always be young," he said laughing.

For him, every stage of his career - whether it's in music or acting - is part of the process of maturing.

"I still want to be myself, whether it's singing, soap operas, or movies. Let's just flow," he said casually.

Ochi's existence in the acting world does not necessarily close the possibility of him returning to the world of singing. Even though he is currently choosing to focus one by one so that the results are maximum, Ochi is still flexible if there are interesting offers such as musical dramas.

"If you act while singing, who knows you can get a musical drama, we don't know. I'm just flexible, it doesn't mean I don't want to sing anymore," said Ochi.

While joking, he told his experience filling the soundtrack for a short project that had become a joke for his friends.

"I had a short soap opera soundtrack, and then I was worried about my friends, 'That's why you shouldn't sing Chi, it's just a moment (the show). But I think it's not just fate, not because of my voice!" he concluded laughing.
