JAKARTA - A new comedy film titled "Check Out Now, Pay Later" (Caper) is ready to present laughter as well as sharp social criticism. This film specifically raises the issue of consumerism among Generation Z and the dangers of abusing the paylater feature.
Director Ardy Octaviand revealed that this film is an evolution of the previous Pay Later IP, but with a much bigger story and issues.
"We are trying to make this Caper film bigger," said Ardy in South Jakarta, Tuesday, January 6.
He feels concerned to see how the paylater feature is often misused just to meet a consumer lifestyle. This often traps young people in a circle of debt.
"I see that Paylater is widely misused for consumption, what, lifestyle. That's what makes them stuck with debt," he explained.
In addition to debt, this phenomenon also encourages the culture of showing off or flexing on social media, which further exacerbates the situation. This film will try to photograph that reality.
Although it raises a heavy social issue, Ardy ensures that the film will be packaged in a very light and entertaining way. The goal is for the audience not to feel intimidated.
"We package it in a very light way... So that the audience does not feel intimidated by the statement we want to convey," said Ardy, who is also the founder of Scovi Films.
The characters in this film are portrayed as "losers" who are trapped by the system. However, they do not give up and continue to try to fight against the situation.
The film Check Out Now, Pay Later (CAPER) will be starring Amanda Manopo, Devano to Fajar Sadboy. The film is scheduled to premiere on February 5.
