YOGYAKARTA - In Arabic, fhaasiq or wicked person is out of something. In Islam, the meaning of wicked is someone who has abandoned obedience to Allah and His Messenger.

According to KBBI, fasik means not caring about God. In addition, a person who believes in God but does not carry out His commands even commits sins.

Quoted from the book Politics and Law: Comparative Studies in the Practice of Islamic Polity and Western Legal Systems by Abdul Manan, according to Imam al-Jurjani, in terms of terminology, a wicked person is someone who witnesses but does not believe and carry out. Al-Mansur explains that the word fasik has the meaning of sin, leaving God's commands and deviating from the right path.

In his book Ular Menunggu Jenazah, Riziem Aizid explains, although often considered the same, fasik is different from kafir. The meaning of kafir is to come out of religion, while the meaning of fasik is a person who comes out of obedience to God's commands.

In his book "Kitab Mukasyafatul Qulub," according to Imam Al-Ghazali, a hypocrite is an individual who commits sinful acts, breaks promises, and deviates from the path of guidance, mercy, and forgiveness. He divides two types of hypocrites, among others:

First, the wicked who are unbelievers are those who do not have faith in Allah SWT and His Messenger. They are prevented from guidance and enter into error as explained in the letter Al-Kahf verse 50,

And when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," they prostrated, except Iblis; he refused. At nang sabihin namin sa mga anghel, "Prostrate kayo kay Adan," sila ay nagpatirapa maliban kay Iblis, siya ay tumanggi.

Meaning: And (remember) when We said to the angels, "Prostrate yourselves to Adam!" They prostrated themselves, except Iblis; he was of the jinn and was disobedient to the command of his Lord. Will you make him and his descendants as your masters instead of Me, while they are your enemies? Satan is indeed an open enemy to man.

Second, fasik fajir is those who consume khamar, forbidden food, commit adultery, disobey God's commands, do not carry out worship, are trapped in sin. Although there are similarities, but the two have fundamental differences.

Forgiveness for the sins of those who have done evil and unbelievers cannot be expected except by declaring the two syahadat sentences and undergoing repentance before death. However, for those who have done evil, the hope of forgiveness can be obtained through repentance before death.

Islam teaches to keep maintaining relationships with other human beings by means of silaturahmi. As for the wicked, they only want to establish relationships with people who help them.

Of course, it is a duty for Muslims to worship and only ask for help from Allah SWT. However, unlike the wicked, they are happy to ask Allah but neglect worship and are more inclined to the worldly.

As explained by the words of Allah SWT, "Do not be like those who forgot Allah, so Allah made them forget themselves. They are the wicked." (Al-An'am: 49)

For example, damaging the expanse of forest that should be a source of water infiltration into settlements or housing. So, when the rainy season arrives, there will often be floods and landslides in the area.

The wicked are very happy to change God's law because they can't do it. Even though they know the punishment is heavy, they don't care and ignore the law.

In the letter of Al-Baqarah verse 59, Allah said:

"Then, the unjust people replaced the commands that had been given to them with those that were not the commands that should be. As a result, We sent a disaster from the sky to them because of their wicked deeds. Although various pleasures had been given to them, the Children of Israel still disbelieved in Allah."
