Criticized By Tarantino, Paul Dano Defended By The Batman Writer

JAKARTA - Paul Dano's name became a conversation this week. Not because of his actions, but because of criticism revealed by director Andrea Tarantino about his acting.

Tarantino was present in The Bret Easton's broadcast and was asked about the list of the best films in the 21st century. As one of the leading directors, he opened up to reveal his list of films, one of which was There Will Be Blood from director Paul Thomas Anderson.

The director put the film There Will Be Blood in fifth place and said, "This film may be able to rank first or second if not for this."

"And the shortfall was Paul Dano. Obviously, the film should be two-hander but it doesn't look like it. He's a strange concoction. He's very strange. He's a strange and unattractive guy. The weakest actor in SAG," he said.

The term two handles mentioned means a film played only by two main actors. Furthermore, Tarantino also praised the appearance of Daniel Day Lewis who got an Oscar through this film.

Ellis as the host argued that Lewis' Day appearance might dominate Paul Dano's performance. Hearing that, Tarantino responded, "So you paired him (Day Lewis) with the weakest actor in SAG?"

"I'm not saying his (Paul Dano) acting was bad but his performance was not clear. I don't care. I don't care about Owen Wilson. I don't care Matthew Lillard," he said.

After the statement went viral, several public figures voiced their support for Paul Dano, while Dano and his representatives did not respond to the comments.

"I'm very impressed to see a lot of people support Paul Dano this week. Not only the amazing actor, he's also a director with great empathy," wrote Mattson Tomlin, screenwriter for The Batman: Part II.

"I don't know but I think Paul Dano is a great actor," wrote Simu Liu in his X account.
