Parents' Behavior Like This Could Worsen The Situation Of Children Affected By Influenza

JAKARTA - Influenza or what is often called flu is one of the most common diseases that attacks children. by attacking the nose, throat, and lungs, influenza can spread very quickly through droplets when a person coughs, sneezing, or even talks.

Children have a high risk of developing this disease because of their growing immune system, and daily activities that make them more exposed to the environment and social contact.

When children are infected with influenza, the role of people who know how to handle it is very important. Parents' behavior also affects child recovery, even the spread of flu in schools and public facilities.

Pediatrician Eka Hospital Depok, dr. Nadine Shakina Tabit, Sp.A, said that when a child is exposed to influenza which is usually accompanied by fever, cough, headache, children should not go to school temporarily.

Many parents try to get their children sick with fever to go to school. "We should wait 1x24 hours to be free and without medicine," said Nadine, during a media briefing in South Jakarta, written on Thursday, November 27, 2025.

Parents are encouraged to wait for their children to be free from fever for at least a day, then allow their children to return to school. This is done so that the child's body condition is completely healthy, and there is no risk of spreading the virus in schools.

"Because actually when he entered, the child had a nightly fever, in the morning he kept asking for school, he was finally taken to school. It can spread," he said.

"Whatever the pain is, at least 1x24 hours of fever-free, you can only do activities without fever. So, it can transmit, let alone still be accompanied by a healing process," he added.

Not only that, getting used to healthy behavior is also important for children to take precautions against influenza and other infectious diseases. Starting from maintaining hand hygiene, wearing a mask during flu or coughing, so as not to force children to do activities when sick.
