YOGYAKARTA - Dirty thoughts may have crossed anyone's mind when they see or experience bad things that are not in line with our expectations. However, did you know, there are efforts that can be taken to keep you away from dirty thoughts, one of which is to practice prayers to remove dirty thoughts.

Every human being is equipped with a mind and heart. The mind of each person depends on his heart. Sometimes dirty thoughts come to mind in the minds of humans that become obstacles to the coming of reward.

Dirty thoughts can certainly lead to evil. Therefore, try to keep practicing to keep your mind clean and well-maintained. One form of dirty thoughts is bad prejudice or in Islam it is known as suudzon.

In order to avoid dirty thoughts, every Muslim must believe that every destiny and decree of Allah SWT is the best.

Quoted from the book Don't Worry, God is with You, written by Muhammad Farid Wajdi, it is explained that everything that comes from Allah SWT is good, even though sometimes humans have bad assumptions. This assumption is sourced from the shallowness of human thinking that judges there to be good destiny and bad destiny. In fact, all of Allah SWT's destiny and decrees are good.

In the letter of Al-Hujurat verse 12, Allah SWT said about the prohibition of bad thoughts and dirty thoughts:

O you who believe! Avoid much [negative] suspicion; indeed, some s suspicion is a sin. And do not spy, nor backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it. Fear Allah; indeed, Allah is Accepting of repentance and Merciful. اے ایمان والو! بہت سی بدگمانیوں سے بچو کیونکہ بعض گمان گناہ ہیں اور ایک دوسرے کی عیب جوئی نہ کرو اور نہ کسی کو بُرا کہو اور نہ کسی کو ایذا دو اور نہ کوئی شخص اپنے بھائی سے ایسی بدگمانی رکھے جو اس کو نقصان دے اور تم میں سے کوئی شخص اپنے بھائی کا گوشت اپنے جسم پر نہ لائے (یعنی کسی دوسرے کو نقصان نہ پہنچائے) کیا تم پسند کرتے ہو کہ اپنے مردہ بھائی کا گوشت کھاؤوہ تم کو ناگوار ہوگا۔ اور اللہ سے ڈرو بیشک اللہ بڑا توبہ قبول کرنے والا مہربان ہے

Meaning: "O you who believe, avoid most suspicions, for some suspicions are sins. And do not spy on each other, nor backbite. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his brother when dead? You would detest it. And fear Allah. Surely, Allah is Accepting of repentance and Merciful.

Quoted from the book Learning to Be Moral, Dr. Zubairi explained that suudzon and dirty-minded people belong to bad deeds and despicable morals.

Umar Bin Khattab RA once said, "Do not think that any word that comes out of your brother who is a believer except with the good that you get that the words contain goodness."

Prayer to Remove Dirty Thoughts

From Ziyad bin 'Ilaqih from his uncle said that the Prophet SAW read the prayer to remove dirty thoughts as below:

"Allahumma inni 'auzubika min munkarati al-akhlak, wa'l-amal, wa'l-ahawah"

Latin: Allahumma inni a'udzu bika min munkarootil akhlaaqi wal a'maali wal ahwaa.

"Ya Allah, I seek refuge with You from the evil of my manners, deeds, and desires." (HR. Tirmidzi)

In addition, there are also other prayers that can keep us from dirty thoughts while calming the heart, namely:

"Ya Allah, aku berlindung kepada-Mu dari kemalasan dan keengganan, dari kemalasan dan keengganan, dan dari kemalasan dan keengganan, dan dari kemalasan dan keengganan, dan aku berlindung kepada-Mu dari siksaan kubur dan dari fitnah kehidupan dan kematian.

Arabic: Allahumma inni a'udzu bika minal 'ajzi, wal kasali, wal jubni, wal haromi, wal bukhl. Wa a'udzu bika min 'adzabil qobri wa min fitnatil mahyaa wal mamaat.

"O Allah, I seek refuge with You from weakness, laziness, fear, ugliness in old age, and stinginess. And I also seek refuge with You from the torment of the grave and the disasters of life and death."
