JAKARTA - The city of Palembang seems ready to be one of the busiest destinations in 2026. The City Government (Pemkot) of Palembang, South Sumatra, has prepared 135 tourist agendas that will be held throughout the year to revive city tourism and attract domestic and foreign tourists.
The acting (Plt) Head of the Palembang City Tourism Office, M. Irman, explained that these various agendas were part of efforts to strengthen Palembang's position as a city for cultural, historical and culinary tourism destinations in Indonesia.
"A total of 135 agendas throughout the calendar for 2026 aim to attract targeted tourist visits of 2.3 million tourists, both domestic and international," said Irman in Palembang, as quoted by ANTARA.
According to him, the increase in the number of tourist visits will have a significant impact on the regional economy. The municipal government targets the economic turnover of the tourism sector to reach Rp366 billion next year.
"The data is that if tourists visit Palembang, for two days and three nights, they will spend Rp. 2.3 million for one tourist, of course this is a good economic turnover," he said.
