5. Make sure there are consequences.

Every choice must have an impact on the flow and character.

Does the protagonist have to be good? No. The important thing is that the audience understands his motivations and follows his journey.

Can the protagonist fail at the end? Yes. The crucial thing is the consistency of the theme and the logical consequences of the choices.
