Avoid Food Waste, Consumption Of Food Wisely Help Protect The Environment

JAKARTA - Indonesia is ranked second as the largest food waste producing country in the world. This condition is very worrying, because food waste can have an impact on various things.

Starting from having a bad impact on food and environmental security, such as producing harmful greenhouse gases, causing disasters such as TPA landslides due to the accumulation of food waste, to climate change.

"Indonesia is number two for food waste," said the Head of the Communication, Information and Education Working Group of the Ministry of Environment's Public Relations Bureau, Romi Setiawan, when met in Jakarta, Wednesday, October 8, 2025.

"The food waste produces a quantity that is actually dangerous for climate change," he added.

Therefore, food waste must be addressed immediately for an environment that remains good today and in the future. One way that people can do to reduce food waste is to be wise in consuming food.

Keep in mind that food waste arises because of throwing away food, which occurs, for example due to feeling full. With that, Romi recommends that people buy and eat food more responsibly.

Food waste we produce because we throw away food, because we feel full. Try us to have to eat the food we take, the food we buy wisely," he said.

If you have bought food and like it, then spend it. If you don't like food, it is recommended not to buy it or keep eating it slowly.

"If you really like it, spend it. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Even if you have to spend it, spend it slowly so that there is no food waste," he explained.

Romi said that it is wise to eat food to avoid food waste must start from oneself and from an early age. He also advised people around him to do it, so that food waste in Indonesia is handled faster and better.

"So do it from yourself, from now on, and invite the friends around you," Romi concluded.
