JAKARTA - A teenage girl in the United States (US) almost lost her life due to the trend of conducting a Benadryl Challenge that went viral on social media (medsos) TikTok.

After doing so, the teenager had hallucinations, his heart was racing, until he was critically rushed to the hospital by his mother.

When investigated, bottles of pills and tablets were found under the juvenile mattress pillow.

He then admitted that he took many pills to follow the Benadyl Challenge trend, whose effects were life-threatening, which worried parents, doctors and health authorities.

Benadyl Challange is a challenging trend on social media that encourages students to swallow large amounts of poolryl allergies, to get the sensation of 'high' or drinking.

This drunken condition is dangerous considering that Benadryl contains diphenhydramine, antihistamine, which cannot be consumed exceeding the dose.

Benadryl, Zzzquil and other medicines containing diphenhydramine can make you sleepy, because histamine helps the brain stay alert, said an allergist, Dr. Zachary Rubin, quoted from Medical Daily, Saturday, October 4.

If consumed does not match the dose, drugs containing fry can cause a person to experience confusion, seizures, psychosis, coma, and even death. Therefore, Benadyl Challange is strictly prohibited from doing so.

For the first time, the Benadryl Challenge trend attracted public attention in 2020 because in some cases it caused death.

In 2023, this challenge also took lives again after a teenager named Jacob totaling in Ohio died after consuming 14 Benadryl tablets.

Jacob experienced a seizure after following the Benadyl Challenge trend. He was fitted with a ventilator, but never regained consciousness. His death sparked pressure for tighter control access to drugs, especially among US teenagers.
