JAKARTA - The unique creation of plastic bottle caps is increasingly popular as an alternative to environmentally friendly crafts. This simple material that is often considered waste can turn into various attractive products, ranging from wall decorations, mini flower vassels, key hangers, to fashion accessories.

With a touch of creativity, bottle caps that usually end up in landfills can actually have artistic value as well as selling value.

In Palembang City, South Sumatra, the Family Welfare Empowerment Mobilization Team (TP PKK) has taken concrete steps to develop this potential. Through a creative program, they invite people to process plastic bottle caps into economic-valued handicraft products.

The chairman of the Palembang City PKK TP, Dewi Sastani, said that his party continues to look for innovative ways to move environmental cadres to be more concerned about waste management.

Not only providing a theoretical understanding, they also teach the practice of directly processing plastic waste into works that can be marketed.

"Hopefully, PKK cadres will not only understand environmental issues, but will be able to prove that waste can be converted into a source of income. We introduce the waste bank as one of the sustainable management solutions," he said, as quoted by ANTARA.

Training activities include engineering to convert plastic bottle caps into various crafts, such as home decorations, key hangers, and unique knick-knacks. Participants are also equipped with knowledge about the waste bank system, ranging from balancing, exchanging, to utilizing waste savings.

According to Dewi, waste must be seen as a resource, not just waste. Through the waste bank system, people can protect the environment as well as earn additional income. He is optimistic that this skill will spur the innovation of PKK Palembang in mobilizing citizen creativity and supporting local economic growth.
