JAKARTA - Behind the colorful appearance and funny character in the Roblox game, there is hidden the potential for danger that can interfere with children's growth and development.
Although popular among elementary school-age children, a lot of content in it contains elements of violence, harsh language, and online interactions that are not always safe. This is a serious concern, considering that early childhood are at a development stage where they are very easy to imitate the behavior they see, including from the games they play.
The Minister of Elementary and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen), Abdul Mu'ti, again reminded the importance of supervising children's activities in the digital world, especially in the use of devices and online games such as Roblox. During his visit to SDN Cideng 2, Central Jakarta, during the implementation of the School's Free Health Check (CKG) program, Mu'ti appealed to students not to play the game.
"If you play with your cellphone, don't watch the violence. The one playing 'blocks' (Roblox), don't play that one, because it's not good," said Mu'ti, as quoted by ANTARA.
According to him, elementary school-age children do not have sufficient cognitive abilities to distinguish between reality and which are just simulations in the game. This is dangerous because what is seen in the game can be easily imitated in real life.
"For example, in the game there is a scene of slamming people, maybe it looks normal. But when a child imitates it when playing with his friend, it can be a problem," he added.

Therefore, Mu'ti emphasized the importance of digital literacy from an early age, so that children are not exposed to content that is not appropriate for their age. He also encourages the active involvement of parents in assisting the use of child gadgets, including filtering the apps and games accessed.
"Children must be accompanied. We need guidance so that they only access those who are useful and educational," he said.
In terms of policy, the Ministry of Education and Culture together with the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) and other ministries have launched the TUNAS Program (Transformation for Prosperous Children), as a form of child protection in the digital space. This program is supported by Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 concerning Governance for the Implementation of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas).
Mu'ti stated that the success of child protection does not only rely on the government, but also on collaborations between families, communities, and digital service providers.
"Please help us to provide educational service children, not those who actually damage their mental and intellectual state," he said.
With the increasingly inevitable use of gadgets in the digital era, supervision and education are the main keys. It does not mean that children are not allowed to play, but they need to be sure to play in a safe space, age-appropriate, and encourage positive growth.
