WFI Works For Nusantara, Ministry Of Education Encourages Synergy Between Women And Government To Advance Cultural Ecosystems

JAKARTA Minister of Culture Fadli Zon emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government and community organizations in building a national cultural ecosystem. This he conveyed while attending the WFI Working for the Archipelago' cultural performance held by Indonesian Philanthropic Women (WFI) at the Manhattan Hotel, South Jakarta, Thursday (24/7).

"This is an extraordinary step. WFI provides a concrete example of how women's organizations contribute to cultural conservation. I hope more and more similar organizations," said Fadli.

He added that synergies between the government, the private sector, and the community are very much needed, including in the development of museums. According to Fadli, Indonesia has 469 museums, but that number is not yet comparable to its cultural wealth.

"It takes a public-private partnership scheme so that the museum can grow, both by local governments and communities or individuals," he explained.

Fadli also highlighted the importance of cultural protection through strengthening intellectual property rights. "We must maintain Intellectual Property (IP) and Geographical Indications so as not to be claimed by outsiders. Because culture requires protection," he said.

The WFI cultural performance presents a combination of Malay and contemporary art, ranging from the Radai performance, wastra, to the art offerings of the members. This event became a real symbol of WFI's commitment to advancing women's role-based culture.

The General Chairperson of WFI, Jesmawati Tanjung, called this activity a form of love for its members for the archipelago culture. "We want to bring change through the work of women. WFI is an inclusive community that cares about humanity and culture," he said.

Member of Commission X DPR RI as well as the WFI Board of Trustees, Melly Goeslaw, appreciated WFI's steps. Their activities have a broad impact, from humanity to cultural preservation. This needs to be continuously supported," said Melly.

WFI currently consists of more than 80 women across professions, ranging from doctors, businessmen, council members, to public figures.

Fadli hopes that the spirit of WFI can be a national inspiration. "This is an example of how art and culture can live because of the active role of the community. The government is ready to work together to revive the Indonesian cultural ecosystem," he concluded.
