JAKARTA - Efforts to restore the prehistoric site of Mount Padang in Cianjur, West Java, are currently in the study stage by the government through the Ministry of Culture.
Minister of Culture Fadli Zon stated that this process is still under intensive discussion, especially regarding the form of restoration and funding needed.
"The process is still being studied, of course it is still under discussion," said Fadli Zon after attending the launch of the Dana Indonesiana program in Jakarta, Monday.
Fadli explained that the aspects being analyzed include a technical restoration plan and its budget allocation. This is because there are still differences of opinion among experts regarding the structure and meaning of the megalithic site which is estimated to be between 10,000 and 25,000 years of age before the AD.
He added that Mount Padang has great potential as a cultural heritage that can attract international attention. Therefore, decisions related to restoration must go through a thorough and thorough study.

"A team has been formed to conduct a study towards restoration. If scientific research is the domain of BRIN, but the study on its preservation is our responsibility," added Fadli.
Previously, Fadli Zon had also said that the restoration of this site would be carried out in the Karyamukti Village area, Cianjur Regency. However, until now there is no certainty about the original form of the site.
He hopes that the restoration process can follow the guidelines from the results of research conducted by experts, even though there is no blueprint or initial design as a reference.
"I can't hope that the final result will be in the form of a complete form because we don't have a blueprint, but we will restore it as much as possible based on the current rock conditions," he said.
The target is that the restoration process can begin in 2025, with the hope of strengthening the cultural value and history of Indonesia in the eyes of the world.
