JAKARTA - Ryan Adriandhy has recently attracted public attention thanks to the animated film he directed, namely Jumbo, gaining great success. The film managed to reach more than 7.7 million viewers as of Wednesday, April 30, 2025.
Regarding the success of the film, the alumni of the Visual Communication Design Program BINUS University said that he really didn't expect it. However, he is grateful for this success and supports young people who want to become an animators who are increasingly trying to create their works as well.
Ryan also gave some tips for young people to become an animator at the Jumbo with Binus International Exclusive Screening event. Here are some tips you need to see.
1. Important collaboration on creative projects
Ryan said that in working on creative projects, such as animated films, is a work with many parties. Therefore, to succeed in doing so, you must be able to collaborate well with others, not selfishly.
"When you're working on creative projects, it's not about you, it's a big collaboration project. So if you're an artist who needs to wait for your mood to finish work, it won't work well," said Ryan Adriandhy, in the Senayan area, Jakarta, on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.
" Pay attention to other people too, remind yourself to do this not only for yourself, but for the team and others," he added.
2. Open to criticism
To succeed in the arts, Ryan said one must be open to criticism or input from others. Criticism is good and can make you create better works.
"You can accept input, criticism, comments, because even if it's bitter, it's good for you," he said.

3. Don't pursue perfection
In making works of art, don't pursue perfection. According to Ryan, perfection in art will not exist and will not be achieved, which ultimately prevents you from releasing the work to the public.
Keep working, never longing for perfection, because it's never going to happen. Every time you go through a day, you are different from before, and you can feel like your previous project could be better. Need to sing, art will never be finished, it just needs to be published. If I want to finish Jumbo, it won't be finished, it could be 20 years maybe," he explained.
4. Don't be afraid to create works like idols
When making works of art, it's not uncommon for someone to have an idol and create something similar to their idol. According to Ryan, this is very natural because all the stories have actually been told by various creators. Focus on the work conveyed through yourself.
"Don't be afraid to create something like your idol, because your idol can't necessarily make it like what you made. All stories have been told, through books, films, music, but have never been told through you," concluded Ryan Adriandhy.
