JAKARTA - In commemoration of World Dance Day which falls on April 29, 2025, hundreds of traditional dancers in Temanggung Regency, Central Java, held a mass kepang Jaran dance performance on the east side of the Temanggung Square.

The Regent of Temanggung, Agus Setyawan, on Tuesday night revealed that this commemoration was a special moment to showcase the wealth of regional cultural arts. He said that the activity was attended by around 600 to 700 dancers from various regions, including Temanggung City and a number of other sub-districts.

"Through this show, we want to show the world that Temanggung has a wealth of dance art to be proud of. This is a form of our appreciation for World Dance Day," he said.

The Kepang jaran performance presented has succeeded in attracting thousands of spectators to the area of the show. The atmosphere is even more lively when people also sway to the rhythm of traditional music.

Agus added, Temanggung is known as a barn for dancers, both in Javanese traditional dance and other forms of dance. He hopes that this kind of activity can encourage art actors to continue to preserve cultural heritage, especially the kepang Jaran dance which is a typical identity of the area.

"Hopefully this momentum will serve as a reminder that dance is an important part of our culture that must be maintained and passed on to the next generation," he concluded.
