Skin Doctor Responds To Tom Cruise's Face Unknown On Ads

JAKARTA - Tom Cruise has become a hot topic of conversation again after appearing in the Super Bowl pre-match ad with a different face. In the ad, this 62-year-old actor appears to have a swollen cheek and strong skin. This triggers speculation that he has undergone beauty procedures.

What makes his appearance even more striking is his latest trailer for the film, Mission: Impossible, which airs just 10 minutes before the ad. In the trailer, Cruise looks like the usual one. In contrast to the appearance in the Super Bowl ad that makes many people wonder.

Some plastic surgeons who analyzed the ad suspected that changes to Cruise's face were most likely caused by filler use in the cheek area. They also suspect the use of Botox, which helps reduce wrinkles by freezing muscles, as well as a resurphacing skin laser procedure that functions to rejuvenate the skin by removing damaged layers.

However, experts argue there are no signs of more invasive procedures, such as facelifts. This can be seen from the skin around his jaw that still looks natural and slightly slack, something that usually doesn't happen if someone has had a facelift.

Dr. Gaurav Bharti, a plastic surgeon from HKB Cosmetic Surgery in Charlotte, North Carolina, said that Cruise's most striking change in face was a reduced definition of his jawline.

"His usually firm jawbar now looks more full and slightly stretched. This can happen due to weight gain or excessive filler use which makes the skin stretch and gives extra volume to the face," said Dr. Bharti, quoted by VOI from the Daily Mail page on Tuesday, February 11.

A similar opinion was conveyed by Dr. Bill Kortesis from the same clinic. According to him, someone with an athletic body like Cruise usually has a more thin and firm face structure, not a full face, as seen in the ad.

Filler is a gel-shaped substance that is injected under the skin to restore lost volume, smooth wrinkles, and increase facial contours.

The most commonly used filler is hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in human skin. Filler effects usually last between six and eight months, costing around USD 500-1200 (Rp 8-19 million rupiah) per injection.

Apart from filler, Dr. David Pincus, a plastic surgeon from Long Island, suspects that Cruise may have also undergone a fat graphing procedure. This technique involves transferring fats from one body to the face to fill deep lines and concave areas, resulting in a more natural appearance. The cost of this procedure ranges from USD 1,500 - 3,800 or Rp24-62 million for one face area.

Experts also highlight the possibility of using Botox and skin resurfacing lasers. Botox works by crippling small muscles under the skin to prevent further wrinkles from forming. The effect lasts about three to four months at a cost of between USD 180 to 750 or IDR 2.9-12 million per session.

Meanwhile, the resurfacing skin laser uses a laser beam to remove damaged outer skin layers and stimulate collagen production. As a result, the skin becomes smoother and faster after the healing process. The cost of this procedure is around USD 400-500 or IDR 6.5 to IDR 8.1 million per session.

In an advertisement for Fox Sports: NFL, Cruise appears in its distinctive style, walking slowly into a dark room filled with video screens featuring NFL iconic moments.

"Tonight in New Orleans, we face a rare mission," Cruise said.

However, just 10 minutes earlier, his face looked much more natural in the trailer for his new film, which was filmed in 2022. This difference further sparked speculation about beauty procedures that he might have undertaken.

Dr. Bharti and Dr. Kortesis dismissed allegations that Cruise had undergone a facelift, arguing that the skin around his jaw still looked loose naturally.

Meanwhile, a source quoted by InTouch at the end of 2024 said that Cruise was actually reluctant to undergo plastic surgery for fear that his appearance would change drastically.

"Cruise really hates the idea of undergoing surgery because she is afraid that it will look like her own caricature. Don't forget, she has experienced a squirrel-like chip after using filler and it took months for the effect to decrease. She was very embarrassed by the incident," said the source.

In addition to changes to his face, experts also highlight Cruise's thicker hair, which can make changes to his appearance even more visible. Until now, Cruise representatives have not provided an official response regarding this speculation.
