YOGYAKARTA - The Ministry of Religion is considering the discourse of a one-month full school holiday during Ramadan 2025. This revolving discourse has also become a topic of conversation in the community, some are pros and cons. Not a few parties highlight the loss of school holidays during Ramadan.

The discourse of the full one month holiday refers to the tradition in the era of Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur) leadership. Although similar policies have been implemented before, currently there are many views from various parties who respond to the discourse. Some emphasize the considerations of social aspects, education, and the economy.

Regarding the holiday policy, it is still under consideration and there has been no official decision from the Ministry of Religion. The Minister of Religion, Nasaruddin Umar, said that the policy had been implemented in Islamic boarding schools. However, in public schools and madrasas, it is still being formulated.

"Actually, we are still considering, especially for schools under the auspices of the Ministry of Religion," he explained.

The Minister of Religion also asked the public to wait for the results of the discussion regarding the holiday policy during Ramadan. Deputy Minister of Religion, Father Muhammad Syafi i also mentioned that there was a discourse, but there has been no further discussion.

"Heeh (yes) there is already a discourse (holiday during fasting). Oh we haven't discussed it yet, but the reading seems to be there, but I haven't discussed it yet," said Syafi (i) on Monday (30/12) at the end of last year.

One of the parties responding to the policy discourse was the National Coordinator of the Education and Teacher Association (P2G), Satriwan Salim. He reminded that a holistic analysis is needed before the policy is implemented.

Satriwan Salim identified five main aspects that must be considered regarding the impact of school holidays during Ramadan:

Anwar Abbas, a social and religious observer, positively welcomed this discourse. According to him, holidays during the month of Ramadan can be an opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of the meaning of the holy month and instill spiritual values.

However, he also suggested that online learning should continue so that education continues. In addition, he proposed the Ramadan Islamic Boarding School program as an alternative. The spiritual-based program in this school combines an intracuricular and extracurricular learning approach.
