JAKARTA - Horror genre films are showing again by displaying a terrible terror background for a family. The Devil's Stay film was released with the theme of exorism or expulsion of demons.

This South Korean horror film is not just presenting tensions typical of the film expulsion of demons, Devils Stay also inserts elements of Korean culture that are thick, especially the three-day funeral tradition.

By following the journey of the character Cha Seung Do (Park Shin Yang) in rescuing his daughter, Cha So Mi (Lee Re), who was inspired by evil spirits.

The story begins after So Mi undergoes a heart transplant carried out by Seung Do himself who works as a surgeon. Instead of getting better, So Mi actually showed strange behavior that eventually led to possessed by a demon.

The film, which is the issue of Moon-Sub Hyun, then brings the situation in despair, Seung Do finally asks a pastor for help to perform an exorism ritual. However, these efforts did not go according to plan and instead led to So Mi's tragic death.

The priest then realized that So Mi's irregularities and strange behavior were caused by the transplanted heart which turned out to bring evil spirits. The heart of the evil spirit carrier is called the opening of the gate of the devil being cursed into the world.

Devils Stay is said to be Park Shin-yang's comeback film, which has been acting on the big screen for 11 years. Man on The Edge became his last feature film in 2013. Park Shin-which is known, among others, through the films The Letter, A Promise, and The Big Swindle.

Although So Mi has been declared medically dead, Seung Do refuses to accept this fact. Various strange incidents began to appear during the funeral procession, including the appearance of an evil spirit that became more real.

One of the interesting elements in the Devil's Stay is the symbolism of the devil which is manifested through the presence of the fire. In one of the scenes, it can be seen that a sickle creeps out of the mouth of So Mi's corpse, followed by hundreds of othermen who storm the boy's room during the ritual.

Once the funeral ceremony begins, a process that takes days, takes place. The mourners began to witness the terrible changes to the little girl's body.

This is where the expulsion of demons begins. The storyline of the film, which was running at a slow tempo at the beginning, turned tense when the devil expulsion procession began.

Devils Stay also revealed the origins of these evil spirits, as well as the past of Pastor Hae Shin. With a touch of culture and tense atmosphere, this film offers a different horror experience from the film expulsion of demons in general.

Apart from Park Shin-yang, Devil's Stay also stars Lee Re, the Netflix series actress Hellbound and the sequel to Train to Busan, Peninsula.
