Childfree's Concept Has Not Been Properly Accepted By The Majority Of Indonesian People

JAKARTA - Childfree or the decision of individual adults and partners not to have children is currently being discussed. According to data shared by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), 71,000 women in Indonesia chose to be childfree.

However, the concept of childfree is actually still not well received by the majority of Indonesians. This was revealed by BPS through a report entitled Searching Childfree Traces in Indonesia

"In Indonesia itself, the concept of childfree has not been fully welcomed by the public," the BPS report on DATAin, reported Wednesday, November 13, 2024.

This was found in various comments that appeared on social media platforms such as YouTube when discussing childfree. A total of 47.16 percent of negative comments colored the conversation about childfree.

Opinion about neutral childfree is no less significant, which is 44.67 percent. Opinions that tend to be neutral illustrate people's thoughts that think that whatever one's life choice, one must respect.

The Indonesian people who give positive aspirations to the childfree concept are only 8 percent. On social media, discussions about childfree are always related to religion.

BPS data shows that keywords such as 'God','religion', 'God', and 'goegois' color the conversation about childfree. Many think that the principle of childfree is very contrary to the nature of humans that have been established by God.

In addition, childfree adherents are also referred to as a group of selfish people. They are said to be only concerned and think about themselves.
