JAKARTA - Marshel Widianto was paired with Riza Patria to run for the Mayor's Pair for South Tangerang in the 2024 Pilkada. The news drew controversy because it was deemed not in accordance with Marshel's track record which was met with cases and negative issues.

Apart from the public, Marshel's candidacy also drew a negative response from fellow public figures. Not a few dared to speak out loud in voicing the news and explaining why.

The first name to express criticism of Marshel's candidacy was Pandji Pragiwaksono. Comedian, the entrepreneur and director expressed his rejection because he thought Marshel had made several fatal mistakes such as being a meth courier and a commercial sex worker (PSK).

"Just cancel now Marshel si Marshel, if Marshel resigns, it will bring good to everyone, both for your party, South Tangerang City and good for his Marshel too," said Pandji Pragiwaksono on his personal YouTube.

"How long do we want this? How long do we want the popular ones to come forward?" he continued.

He regretted that the Gerindra Party chose a candidate who only relied on popularity. He is worried that later South Tangerang residents will be led by people who do not have political experience and focus on their individuals.

While talking with Denny Sumargo, Kiky Saputri stated that he did not agree if Marshel ran for office. According to Kiky, the mayor's position is an executive position that is not in accordance with Marshel's comedian capacity.

"As Deputy Mayor, I don't (approved). You see, the mayor is an executive position, the executive position means he is the person who will be the executor of the task, the legislator of the law. If the legislature is like a DPR candidate, the DPRD formulates a law, absorbs aspirations," said Kiky Saputri.

In addition, Marshel is also not domiciled in South Tangerang according to his candidacy area. Again, especially as a deputy mayor.

In my opinion, if you make Marshel's capacity, especially in South Tangerang, not his territory, he doesn't know what the problem is in South Tangerang. Except in Priuk where he was born, maybe he will know. Maybe, because he is the executor, right (Deputy Mayor), what is the problem is not good, he will solve it. But if he becomes a candidate, I might support him," he continued.

Nikita Mirzani also expressed the same thing as Pandji and Kiky. He suggested it would be better for Marshel to fulfill himself with knowledge and focus on his family than running.

"It's like Marshel, there's no brain content, but he wants to run as deputy mayor. The original Tangerang people, and just holding Tangerang, can't take care of the real area, let alone Marshel," said Nikita Mirzani.

"In the next five years, it is permissible, on condition that he (Marshel) must learn first," he continued.

The Muslim trend of hoping Marshel's candidacy is a joke, because he is one of the residents of South Tangerang. In addition, he felt that Marshel had to go through several stages before going to the mayor's level.

"I'm still sure, that's just a prank. It's called politics, so you can joke. I hope it's just a joke. (If it's true) yes, I'd better move Depok," said Tretan Muslim.

"Honestly I don't believe it. Personally, it's good, but to enter politics, step up from the village head first, RT, so don't directly go to the mayor, the mayor is at my place again. If the deputy mayor is another area, go ahead. But because this is where I live. Good luck to be elected in another city, not in my area," he said.

Although he did not state direct rejection, Ernest Prakasa criticized the news of Marshel's candidacy as Deputy Mayor.

"Gw doesn't know which one is more inconsequential. There are political parties that want to run Marshel, or the Marshel who wants to be nominated. Crazy," wrote Ernest Prakasa in his X account.
