KPI Supports Steps Lesti Kejora Report KDRT, Can Be Education For The Community

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) appreciates the steps taken by dangdut singer Lesti Kejora to immediately report domestic violence (KDRT) to the police. Lesti's news is expected to be an education for the public.

"This is an example for the public that domestic violence is no longer a private area that must be hidden, but this must be revealed to the public," said Nuning Rodyah as Commissioner of the Central KPI, quoted from ANTARA, Saturday, October 1.

Furthermore, Nuning said Lesti's decision to report her husband Rizky Billar on suspicion of domestic violence would open up the public's view that domestic violence is not a family problem that must be covered up.

"Because if it is hidden, there will be the potential for repeating similar violence, especially when the victim or family around them do not dare to report and there must be the courage to report this crime in order to create a deterrent effect for the perpetrators," he said.

KPI itself has given an appeal to the institutions of all broadcasters not to display perpetrators of domestic violence (KDRT) as performers, performers and actors, in this case Rizky Billar, on Friday, September 30.

This step is an effort made by KPI to abolish domestic violence actions and not provide space for the perpetrators. This is an education to the public so as not to provide support to public figures who conduct domestic violence.

In addition, KPI asks television and radio to be more selective in choosing the talent or resource person in the topic it chooses.

"Because if broadcasting institutions give space to perpetrators, it will stimulate public perspectives and perceptions that domestic violence is a normal and ordinary behavior because the person concerned can still appear freely on television and even potentially be massively glorified," he said.
