Prince William Welcomes Princess Diana's Interview Investigation

JAKARTA - Prince William has welcomed an investigation into BBC International media for an interview with Princess Diana which was conducted in 1995.

Launching Reuters today, November 19, the Supreme Court investigation will focus on how the publisher conducts the interview and whether the board of directors is covering up something.

"An independent investigation is the right step. This must establish the truth behind the actions of the Panorama interview and the BBC's decisions at that time, "Prince William said in a statement.

A little flashback, a BBC interview in 1995 conducted by journalist Martin Bashir. The interview presented several new facts including an admission of the failure of Diana's marriage to Prince Charles.

At that time, the interview video was watched by more than 20 million viewers in the UK.

In the same month, Diana's younger brother Charles Spencer said the BBC failed to apologize for what he said with fake documents and other hoaxes that brought Diana to Bashir.

Charles said Bashir made a number of things related to himself and Diana, including the incident where Diana was bugged by security and senior assistants were bribed to provide information.

Bashir himself has not yet spoken to the BBC and the media regarding the issue of this investigation. He is known to be undergoing a period of recovery from heart surgery and COVID-19.

BBC Director General Tim Davie said the BBC was determined to uncover the truth about Diana's sister's claims.

Spencer said Bashir made a series of things against himself and Diana, such as Diana being bugged by the security services and two senior assistants being bribed to provide information about Diana. Bashir is accused of providing false reports from banks to support this action.

Bashir has not commented to the media and the BBC said the journalist, best known for his interview with Diana, is currently on sick leave to recover from heart surgery as well as COVID-19.

The BBC will investigate how the BBC and Bashir can conduct interviews.
