JAKARTA - Kim Woo Bin ended his hiatus in big screen production with the film Alienoid. It is known that in 2017, the actor was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer.
Alienoid is his first big screen project in six years. He claimed to know the production of this film in the middle of the treatment process.
"I was working on the film Wiretap with (director) Choi Dong Hoon when I was diagnosed with the disease and the project was postponed," Kim Woo Bin quoted The Korea Herald as saying today, Tuesday, July 19.
"So when I came back, I thought I should (back) with a Choi Dong Hoon film project," he explained.
In the middle of the recovery process, Kim Woo Bin found out about the Alienoid project. But apart from that, he is willing to get any character regardless of the size of the role.
“I remember the first day of shooting this film. I felt embarrassed filming in a bodysuit,” recalls Kim Woo Bin.
Kim Woo Bin confessed that he was emotional when the staff greeted him on set. He also felt great support from his co-stars - Kim Tae Ri and Ryu Jun Yeol even though they weren't filming at the time.
“At that time we weren't very close and didn't get to talk to each other. But they still came to my first day of shooting. I will remember that atmosphere for a long time,” said Kim Woo Bin.
It has been five years since Kim Woo Bin was declared cured of cancer. Until now, he still conducts regular health checks at the hospital.
“5 years since I recovered after undergoing treatment and I only had an examination last Tuesday. The doctor said I'm better than before," said Kim Woo Bin.
In the movie Alienoid, Kim Woo Bin plays a time portal guard who searches for alien prisoners who have entered Earth. He found a portal that connected the year 1390 with the Goryeo era (918).
Alienoid will be released in Indonesian cinemas starting July 27.
