YOGYAKARTA – Research explores a number of personality traits that influence separation or make one partner back off regularly. Research conducted in 2015 by PK Jonason and colleagues identified things that affect relationships, ranging from poor health, unattractive personality, irritability, and bad in bed.

The most recent study, conducted by Csabók and Berkics in 2022, collected and analyzed the traits of unwanted partners. Through the findings of the study, researchers contribute to identifying desirable partner traits. Here are the seven traits that are most avoided from partners because they can cause relationship rifts.

1. No ambition

For most people, an unambitious partner is an unwanted partner. Especially in the long-term context, unambitious is described as often indecisive in making decisions and having no goals. But according to psychologist Theresa DiDonato, Ph.D., reported by Psychology Today, it is different from casual relationships because these relationships tend to be short-term.

2. Aggressive

The opposite of not being ambitious, being overly aggressive is also a trait that is most avoided. Someone being mean, unfriendly, and angry is a tactic to secure a partner. But people find being too aggressive to obsess over securing a partner is also less desirable.

3. Messy

According to research, having a partner who is messy, dirty, and smells bad is the most lethal factor in relationships, both short-term and long-term. Everyone, both men and women, likes a partner that is neat, smells good, or at least doesn't smell bad.

4. Arrogant

When looking for a partner, you should leave the ego. People will not be interested in dating someone arrogant. Although sometimes some people don't really care about the arrogance of a partner in a long-term relationship.

5. Have no stand

Having a partner who doesn't have a stand can trigger small problems to become big ones. But this trait is not as problematic as the properties described above. This means that this trait is more acceptable although it requires assertive communication from everyone in pairs so as not to trigger the problem to get bigger.

6. Less attractive

It makes sense that everyone wants an attractive partner. Several studies have shown that couples who are humorous and intelligent are more likely to create lasting and harmonious relationships. But everyone has their own preferences on how attractive and unattractive partners are.

7. Rough

For women, looking for a partner who is not rude is more desirable. Good for short and long term relationships. An abusive partner, according to studies, is considered a dealbreaker.
