JAKARTA - Joaquin Phoenix and Martin Sheen were arrested on Friday, January 10. The two were picked up by the authorities after attending and speaking at Jane Fonda's latest climate change rally in Washington, DC.

Fonda has held a protest event titled Fire Drill Friday every week since October 11. This week, the focus of their protests will be big banks and investors financing fossil fuel exploration.

Phoenix was escorted off the Capitol steps by the police, along with Martin Sheen and a number of other protesters. Other actors including Ted Danson and Rosanna Arquette were previously arrested at the show, and Fonda herself has been brought in four times.

After his recent Golden Globe victory, the actor Joker spoke about the personal steps he is taking to fight climate change.

"I am struggling very much with what I can do (to fight climate change)," he said in a video recorded by The Hill. "But one thing I can do is change my eating habits."

Animal rights spokesperson Phoenix kicked off her Best Actor win at the Golden Globes by nudging the link between animal farming and climate change in relation to the plant-based diet of the show.

Meanwhile. Last November, Phoenix revealed he would be interested in starring in a Joker sequel if the script was right.

Speaking to The Envelope (via LA Times) on November 1, Phoenix confirmed that he would only take part in the sequel if he deemed it a worthy sequel.

"I'm not going to play a sequel just because the first film was successful, that's ridiculous," Phoenix insisted.
