Not Accepting Criticism Of Marvel Movies, Elizabeth Olsen: Like Underestimating The Crew's Hard Work

JAKARTA - It's no secret that Marvel films often receive criticism. Both from the public and fellow film actors, Marvel releases are often considered not a product of cinema.

Elizabeth Olsen, who plays Wanda Maximoff or Scarlet Witch, is aware of the criticism. Even some time ago, director Martin Scorsese called the Marvel universe more like a playground than cinema.

In addition, director Francis Ford Coppola has also said that Marvel films are just repetitive. As a result, not a few who consider Marvel films are not part of cinema.

"I'm not saying we're making an indie film but I think it takes the hard work of our crew away, which annoys me," Elizabeth Olsen told The Independent.

"There are set designers, costume designers, camera operators - I think underestimating them with criticism like that also takes away the people who worked on this project," he continued.

Olsen explained that he understands the criticism but that it would be unfair if the criticism brought down the people who worked on the film behind the scenes.

“From an actor's point of view, I understand because there are different performances. But throwing Marvel just like that is like throwing away a talented crew," he said.

Elizabeth Olsen has starred in six Marvel films so far, including Avengers: Endgame, WandaVision, and most recently Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. He didn't expect to be involved this far.

“I only signed contracts for a few films, so it continued like a surprise when they used me for so many projects. I wonder how lucky I was when they wanted to make WandaVision,” he said.

Olsen also gets nervous every time he remembers WandaVision was the first superhero to have a solo series from Marvel. "There's a sense of fear and pressure especially when it's connected to Doctor Strange," said Elizabeth Olsen.
