There's Meaning Behind Sex Scenes In Bridgerton 2: Performative Intimacy

JAKARTA - Shondaland will continue the family romance story in Bridgerton 2 which will be released this week. The story focuses on the eldest, Anthony, played by Jonathan Bailey.

Conflict and tension between the Bridgerton family became the main point. The creator, Chris Van Dusen explains a number of interesting things from this sequel.

“Fans can look forward to a wild ride in this season. We worked hard to bring everything fans wanted from season one and we did. It's great, emotional, romantic and scandalous," said Chris Van Dusen in a virtual press conference on Monday, March 21.

Jonathan Bailey, who was previously a supporting character, is now the main character in Bridgerton 2. He feels that there are many Anthony stories that can be explored through this story.

“With Anthony, there was a lot going on in the second book. It's great to be a romantic male character and understand what avoidance and toxicity feel like," explains Anthony Bailey.

"He (Anthony) has a troubled past but it's good to explore to see him smile more," he said.

The first season of the Bridgerton series featured explicit scenes between the two main characters. This explicit relationship turned out to be the center of attention of Bridgerton fans.

“You know, it's not about quantity but how to build intimacy. We never make sex scenes for sex scenes only. There's a purpose in the story this season," said Chris Van Dusen.

"Like Chris said, the sex scenes in (Bridgerton 2) are intimate, performative and meaningful," added Simone Ashley.

Adapted from the book The Viscount Who Loved Me, Bridgerton 2 follows Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) who is looking for a partner. He meets Edwina Sharma (Charitra Chandran) who came from India.

The assessment did not go smoothly after Edwina's sister, Kate, was very angry with Anthony. As a result, Anthony tries to melt Kate's feelings which lead to falling in love. The Bridgerton 2 series will release on Netflix on March 25, 2022.
