JAKARTA - Iranian authorities confirmed on Thursday morning that the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed until the United States accepted Tehran's conditions for reopening the strategic waterway.

According to the semi-official Mehr News Agency, Iranian military spokesman Mohammad Akrami-Nia said that control over the strait must be under Iranian authority before it can be reopened.

He said Washington must abide by the provisions of last month's framework peace deal, cease what he called hostile actions, and accept Iran's rules governing the strait, Anadolu quoted him as saying (16/7).

Akrami-Nia added that the ongoing military action of the Uncle Sam State would not force the State of the Mullahs to reopen the waterway.

The statement came after new waves of explosions were reported in several cities in Iran when the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced additional attacks on the country.

US CENTCOM said the attack targeted Iranian military capabilities linked to threats against ships crossing the Strait of Hormuz, a key global trade route.

The attacks come amid rising tensions between the US and Iran over the Strait of Hormuz, with American forces attacking Iran.

Tehran retaliated with attacks on US military bases across the region despite a Pakistani-brokered framework deal to reach a lasting settlement.
