'The Batman' Earns IDR 1.8 Trillion In America

JAKARTA - The superhero film, starring Robert Pattinson, The Batman collected 128.5 million US dollars or approximately IDR 1.8 trillion in its box office debut in America. The figures mark The Batman as the second film in the pandemic era to surpass $100 million in one weekend.

Previously, Spider-Man: No Way Home earned USD 260 million (IDR 3.7 trillion) when it launched in December last year. The Batman earned USD 120 million (IDR 1.7 trillion) from 74 markets outside the US, bringing its global revenue to USD 248.5 million (IDR 3.5 trillion).

“It's great to see the public really like this film. With a duration of three hours, this film is the most awaited spectacle. It bodes well for the big screen and the word-of-mouth response has been strong," said Jeff Goldstein, president of domestic distribution at Warner Bros.

Quoted from ANTARA, before The Batman, Warner Bros.'s highest-grossing films in North America since March 2020 were Godzilla vs. Kong which made 100 million US dollars (IDR 1.4 trillion), and "Dune" with 109 million US dollars (1.5 trillion).

The film, which was directed by Matt Reeves, was able to attract an audience with a majority male demographic with more than 65 percent and among young people between 18 and 34 years old with 60 percent.

Previously, the video game adaptation starring Tom Holland, Uncharted held the title for biggest weekend debut of the year by collecting 44 million US dollars (IDR 634.6 billion). The film dropped to second place at the box office this weekend.

While in another position, the film made by director Channing Tatum Dog landed in third place by grossing 6 million US dollars (IDR 86.5 billion).

Spider-Man: No Way Home is also still holding out in theaters, taking fourth place by adding $4.4 million over the weekend. In addition, Death on the Nile took fifth place at the box office, grossing USD 2.7 million (IDR 38.9 billion) between Friday and Sunday.
