JAKARTA - Hotel rental platform Airbnb and travel agency in the Bookin network have stopped operating in Russia, following other companies that have imposed sanctions on the country.

Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky tweeted about the delay. He linked the move to other big names, such as General Motors C, Boeing Co and Alphabet Inc.

"People book Airbnb in Ukraine. They don't mean to stay, they just want to help the hosts," Chesky said as reported by Antara.

Apart from Russia, the company also ceased operations in Belarus. Airbnb previously said it was offering temporary housing to 100,000 people leaving Ukraine, through their nonprofit.

Just like Airbnb, Booking Holdings Inc has also suspended their activities in Belarus.

"Every day that goes by, the urgency of the war in Ukraine is increasing, as is the complexity of doing business in the region," Booking CEO Glenn Fogel said in a LinkedIn post about the reasons for shutting down operations in Russia and Belarus.
