JAKARTA - The fictional character Batman accompanies actor Robert Pattinson's childhood who often wears the hero's costume. Now, the British actor has a chance to fulfill his childhood dream as a cloaked hero in the latest film "The Batman" in which he plays the main character.

"It feels really weird," said Pattinson on the red carpet premiere of "The Batman" in London, Wednesday local time. "I wonder what I thought when I was little about this," he said, quoted from ANTARA, February 25.

Pattinson, best known for his "Twilight" films about the love story of vampires and humans, follows in the footsteps of other actors who have played Bruce Wayne/Batman, namely Adam West, Val Kilmer, Michael Keaton, Christian Bale and most recently Ben Affleck.

"The legacy of the actors, they've been a huge part of my life and my passion for movies and that's why I wanted to be an actor," Pattinson said.

Pattinson was delighted to be part of the Batman family, adding that acting with the mask "turned hard".

"I grew up watching Adam West (as Batman). I think the costume I wore as a child was Adam West's costume."

In this film, Batman investigates corruption in Gotham following the assassination of officials by the serial killer, the Riddler.

"There are a lot of great Batman movies and it's a character that everyone loves... So I don't face it without a hefty dose of terror," said director Matt Reeves.

"In a way it's a psychological horror film, it's also a thriller, it's a serial killer film and it's also a film about love stories."

"The Batman" also stars Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis and Paul Dano. Zo Kravitz stars as Selina Kyle/Catwoman.

"Matt... wanting to explore Selina as a three-dimensional human and being able to explore early in the story before she became Catwoman is something I've never seen before," Kravitz said.
