JAKARTA - Director Denis Villeneuve's Dune film released its first trailer on Wednesday, September 9. Starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, one of the most awaited films features a new adaptation of the story that was previously directed by David Lynch 36 years ago.
Through its inaugural trailer, Dune divides the story into two parts: a future universe ruled by the Emperor and a magic sand that controls everything entitled The Spice.
The film is based on Frank Herbert's 1965 science fiction novel, but Villeneuve only picks up the bulk of the story. It is said that Paul Atreides traveled to a dangerous planet, Arrakis. He discovered a spice that can prolong life and superhuman minds.
Apart from Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, the film also features Oscar Isaac, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Rebecca Ferguson.
After David Lynch's version was judged a failure, Dune fans expect the Villeneuve version to live up to their expectations. Villeneuve also admitted that he would not see David Lynch's version and chose to create Dune according to his own interpretation.
Villeneuve explains that he will split Dune into two parts. The production was completed in July 2019.
