JAKARTA - Director Patrick Hughes has been appointed to direct the remake of Gareth Evans' film The Raid.

Launching Deadline on Tuesday, January 11, Gareth Evans will help on the producer side as will Michael Bay. They will executive produce under XYZ Films and Range Media Partners.

“We are excited about Patrick's unique vision for this film. It's a take on original material that will pay homage to the original film but also bring a new approach and perspective that sets its own path in the action genre," the producers said.

The original film, written and directed by Gareth Evans, focuses on a SWAT team trapped in a building owned by criminals and a group of assassins.

For the reboot version, the script for this film will be worked on by James Beaufort, who wrote several documentaries and short films.

In addition, The Raid remake will be set in a place called Badlands which is set in Philadelphia. The story is that a group of DEA elites is tasked with capturing a kingpin.

The success of The Raid, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, led to this film being followed up with The Raid 2: Berandal in 2014.

Director Patrick Hughes is known for directing a number of films such as Red Hill, The Expendables 3, The Hitman's Bodyguard, and Hitman's Wife Bodyguard.

On the other hand, Netflix has not announced when the remake version of The Raid will be released.
