JAKARTA - Playing the role of Sandi in the film Preman (Thugs), Khiva Iskak had to be hospitalized three times. Sandi is a very complex character and does a lot of martial arts scenes.

"The first time I went to the hospital was vertigo. The last one was when I got into a big fight, I walked out because I wasn't strong enough, I went to the hospital," Khiva said when met in Jakarta, quoted from ANTARA, December 4.

Despite being admitted to the hospital many times, Khiva said the filming process continued as usual, and could even be finished in just 25 days. "As soon as I was in the ER I immediately continued hahaha. But that was my choice. They (the production team) suggested to stop but I said, it's ok, I'm really strong," said Khiva.

When playing his character, Khiva did a lot of martial arts scenes. He shared that prior to filming, he was given two months to learn the moves. In addition, Khiva also needs to learn Sign-language because Sandi is told as a person with a deaf disability.

"So at the same time I had to (learn) sign language, explore characters, and fighting. So that's okay," said Khiva.

However, Khiva said it helped a little because he also has a martial arts background and enjoys playing sports. Thugs is a crime action film produced by Introversey, directed and written by Randolph Zaini.

The film successfully won two Citra Awards at the 2021 Indonesian Film Festival, namely for the categories of Best Makeup Artist and Best Visual Effects Artist. Preman movie competed at the 16th Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival (JAFF) in Yogyakarta on 27 November-4 December 2021, as well as being the premiere for the public in Southeast Asia.
