Beware Of Claims For Drug Products And 'FDA Approved' Supplements, Make Sure It's Permitted By BPOM!

JAKARTA - Illegal drug products and supplements are still widely circulated in the market today, especially in online stores. This is worrying, especially with products offered with lucrative claims, such as the FDA approved or approved by other state institutions.

Head of the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM), Taruna Ikrar Bakti, reminded the public to be careful in buying medicinal products and supplements, especially those from outside Indonesia. The public is advised not to be easily deceived by the various claims for the sale of these products.

It should be understood that not everything on social media or that is marketed with various claims is true. Some are hoaxes, some are overclaim, and so on, "said Taruna, at the Anti-Counterfeit Media Briefing event, held by Daewoong Indonesia, in Jakarta, on Thursday, November 13, 2025.

Even though these medicinal products and supplements have received approval abroad, Taruna reminded the public to only buy products that have been legalized and have received distribution permits by BPOM RI.

"Even though there are products that claim to have FD approval, they have Korea approval, they are already Japan approval, but if there is no POM approval, it means that there is no security certainty," he said.

The cadets explained that if there is no permit from the BPOM, then no party has investigated and guaranteed that the product is safe for the Indonesian people. All medicinal products and supplements marketed in Indonesia must go through BPOM approval so that they are called legal.

"If there is no distribution permit from BPOM, it means that there is no institution that selects and guarantees, which is trusted by the government," he said.
