Young People Get More Cancer, Study Reveals Types

JAKARTA - The increase in cancer cases among children easily raises concerns for patients and medical personnel. This is based on a study that reveals the reasons and types of cancer that many young people suffer from.

In the study published in JAMA Internal Medicine, it shows that the increase in the number of cancer cases in young people is mostly due to much better and more routine screening.

Although the increase in cases occurs, the mortality rate among young people has not changed much. Of the 33 types of cancer, there are 14 cancers that show an increase in numbers, at least one younger age group.

Among the 14 cancers, the researchers observed eight cancers with an incident that increased more rapidly. The cancer is thyroid cancer, anus, kidney, fine intestines, colorectal, endometrium, pancreatic, and myeloma, which occurs among adults under 50.

Despite the incidence of invasive paydura cancer and kidney cancer increasing in women that 50 years, the death toll for both types of cancer in all age groups has actually decreased in recent years.

"Actually, there aren't more cancer out there. We only find things that are always there. That really applies to thyroid and kidney cancer," said one study author, Dr. H Gilbert Welch, quoted by NBC News, on Monday, October 6, 2025.

Not only that, the study also said that the reason for the increase in cancer cases could not be fully attributed to the current screening being much better.

It is stated that increasing cases of cancer in young people is also caused by various factors. One of the main things is lifestyle, including diet, obesity, and lack of physical activity in daily life.
