JAKARTA The Indonesian Professors of Medicine (MGBKI) have called for a serious evaluation of national health policies, including the National Health Insurance Financing System (JKN).
This call was conveyed in the midst of public unrest and the medical world for the transformation of health which is considered not to be in favor of the small people and at risk of damaging the governance of education and medical services in Indonesia.
The chairman of MGBKI, Prof. Dr. Dr. Budi Iman Santoso, SpOG(K), MPH, emphasized that the role of JKN is too important to be left without a healthy monitoring mechanism.
"The JKN financing system must receive attention and be determined proportionally by raising the interest of an independent audit to prevent repeated deficits," he said, from MGBKI's official statement.
MGBKI assesses that JKN has become the backbone of access to health services for most Indonesians. However, without transparent and accountable financial governance, this program can actually burden the country and reduce the quality of service.
MGBKI Secretary, Prof. DR. Dr. Theddeus Prasetyono, SpBP-RE(K), reminded that JKN's financial risk is not only a matter of balance deficits, but also related to the sustainability of safe and quality health services.
"We remind the government that without a good arrangement, the current policies will threaten the quality of medical education, professional dignity, and the most dangerous thing is the safety of patients," he said.

Apart from JKN, MGBKI also highlighted health transformation policies that are considered too centralized to the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes). According to them, a number of technical policies were carried out without dialogue with academics or practitioners.
"The policy of building high-tech facilities that should be very good, has not yet been supported by the availability of adequate resources," explained Prof. Budi.
He added that attention was actually diverted to the takeover of the medical education curriculum by the authorities, which was considered to weaken the independence of scientific development.
MGBKI supports President Prabowo Subianto, but asks for a more firm stance in overseeing health policies.
"We hope that the President leads wisely, wisely, and fairly in overcoming the confusion of the transformation of health development and medical education, so that the process goes well, correctly, and in favor of the quality, safety of patients, and dignity of the Indonesian medical profession," said Prof. Budi.
This call is reinforced by pressure for the government to immediately stop the practice of domination, including collegium dualism, planned mass production of doctors without distribution solutions, and power abuse in managing medical personnel.
Outside the government, MGBKI also invites all parties to maintain integrity in dealing with this situation. To the community and students, they advised to continue to convey their aspirations in a peaceful and dignified manner. To medical personnel and academics, MGBKI asked to stick to scientific voices as the nation's moral anchor.
"MGBKI believes that true independence is only realized if this nation is healthy, fair, and dignified. Unity must be treated through dialogue, courage, and sincerity." concluded Prof. Budi.
