JAKARTA - Upper respiratory tract infections (ARI) are one of the diseases that often appear, especially during changing seasons. This condition can attack anyone, from children to adults.

To prevent transmission, maintaining endurance is the main thing, one of which is through the consumption of nutritious food. Balanced nutritional intake, such as fruit, vegetables, protein, and adequate fluids, plays an important role in increasing immunity so that the body is not susceptible to respiratory disease.

In line with this, the Bengkulu City Health Office (Dinkes) appealed to the public to adopt a healthy diet to prevent the spread of ARI.

"We invite the public to maintain a diet and increase the consumption of nutritious food to avoid ARI disease," said the Head of the Bengkulu City Health Office, Joni Haryadi Thabrani, in Bengkulu, as quoted by ANTARA.

Based on data, from January 2025 to the middle of this year the number of ISPA cases in Bengkulu City reached 17,749 cases. Of this number, 3,835 cases were experienced by children under five years old. This number is considered quite high for the capital area of Bengkulu Province.

According to Joni, the increase in ARI cases cannot be separated from weather changes, especially the transition from the dry season to the rainy season, which is marked by moderate to heavy rainfall.

He added that people should limit the consumption of oily foods, cold drinks, and fast food because it can trigger coughs and reduce endurance.

In addition, residents who have sensitivity to air conditions are advised to wear masks when doing activities outside the room. Weak immune system due to hot weather and exposure to dust can also make a person more susceptible to ISPA.

Even so, Joni emphasized that most cases of ARI can recover naturally in about one to two weeks.

If symptoms appear such as cough and runny nose, residents can take drugs that are sold freely. However, if there is no repair, it is better to immediately check at the nearest health facility.
