JAKARTA - The problem of stunting is still a serious challenge in the development of human resources in Indonesia.
Based on the results of the 2024 Indonesian Nutrition Status Survey (SSGI), the prevalence of national stunting was recorded at 19.8 percent. This figure shows a decline from the previous year, which was 21.5 percent in 2023.
This decline is a positive signal as well as a call to strengthen more directed and collaborative intervention measures.
This survey, which was officially released by the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) on Monday (26/5), became the main reference in evaluating and designing policies to accelerate stunting reduction in Indonesia.
Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that the government remains consistent in pursuing the stunting reduction target of 14.2 percent by 2029, as stated in the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN).
"This is a fairly challenging target. In the next five years, we are required to cut the national stunting rate by 7.3 percent," said Minister of Health Budi as quoted by Antara.
SSGI 2024 is the result of multi-sector cooperation involving 38 provinces and 507 districts/cities. The implementation collaborates with independent survey institutions and trusted partners to ensure the data obtained is accurate and accountable.

Head of the Health Development Policy Agency, Asnawi Abdullah, said that this survey has an important role in providing credible basic data. This is the basis for formulating a targeted strategy to overcome chronic nutritional problems in the country.
On the other hand, the Deputy for Strategic Policy for Family Development, Population Control, and Family Planning at the BKKBN, Ukik Kusuma Kurniawan, emphasized the importance of utilizing survey results as the main reference in designing policies and real action programs.
The data generated from SSGI is vital in designing various policies and intervention measures to reduce stunting. This is not just a number, but also educational materials and advocacy, "explained Ukik.
One of the concrete efforts being carried out is the Foster Parent Movement Prevent Stunting (Genting) program, which is part of the BKKBN quick wins.
In this program, the participation of the community, especially foster parents, is highly emphasized, and SSGI data is used as a basis to increase their understanding and involvement.
Genting's foster parents must be provided with a strong understanding of the stunting situation in their respective regions. This is not only the responsibility of the government, but also all elements of society," he concluded.
